Wednesday, March 24, 2004

The Committee met at 7:00 P.M. at the Town Hall.

Present: Donald Burke, Nancy Macirowski, Elaine Tracy, Richard Tracy, Taylor Vaughan, Suzanne White

Guest Eric Galant from the Mid-Coast Regional Planning Commission presented an informed assessment of the current status of Appleton's Comprehensive Plan and described the efforts of other towns in mid-coast Maine that are working to bring their Plans into compliance with the State's requirements. Until Appleton's Plan becomes compliant, Appleton remains "ineligible" for certain important grant monies for projects both large and small.

Committee members labeled about 1,400 envelopes and stuffed about 700 copies of the Comprehensive Plan Survey (including return envelopes) for mailing to all Appleton property owners on March 25th.

Taylor Vaughan was elected Chairman of the Commiteee.

As a result of discussion with Mr. Galant, the Committee agreed to entertain a consulting proposal from the Mid-Coast Regional Planning Commission for tecnical aid in preparation of the Town's Comprehensive Plan, and to request $4,500 from the Town for FY2004, a sum that, with carry over from FY2003, should provide for the projected cost of services from the Mid-Coast Regional Planning Commission during the coming year in preparation of a final Comprehensive Plan document to put forward for Town approval in June, 2005.
